Preaching |
At many churches, most of the members are from the local area and the preacher is from someplace in Texas or West Virginia. Here at Denbigh, most of the members are from places like Texas and West Virginia and the preacher is a Newport News natives. (Didn’t someone say something about a prophet, honor, and his own country?) Tuck was born in Newport News, Virginia in 1956, but his roots are in Arkansas, where his great-grandfather J. A. Copeland was a respected preacher and founding editor of Gospel Light Magazine. Tuck's ministry education includes a bachelor’s degree in Bible from Freed-Hardeman College, an M. A. R in religious communication from Harding Graduate School of Religion, and an M. Div. from Trinity Theological Seminary. Tuck came to the Denbigh church in May of 1980 as the youth minister. A few months later, the preacher moved, and the elders asked him to fill in as the interim preacher while they searched for a pulpit minister. He's been here ever since. (Tuck says, "Either their standards are so high that they haven’t found one yet or so low that they thought I’d do. Whichever it is, here I am!") |

God has blessed Tuck with a wonderful family. Lynn and Tuck were married in December of 1977. Lynn works full time as a special education teacher at Denbigh High School. Lynn has been teaching in our children's Bible School program for many years, and she also stays busy singing soprano on our praise team. Tuck and Lynn have two beautiful daughters. Tressa is a graduate of Harding University (like her Dad) and teaches special education at Denbigh High School (like her Mom) where she also coaches the cheerleading squad. Angelynn is a Junior at Harding where she is majoring in athletic training and stays busy traveling with various sports teams. Not pictured is Maggie who is just a dog... but don't tell her that!. |
